Mind Body & Soul (MBS)

When the formally incarcerated reenters society an array of psychological, physical and spiritual adjustments are necessary.  Mind, Body, Soul (MBS) is another division of The Academy offering an array of psychological, physical, and spiritual programs and resources aimed at making its consumer’s reintegration into community successful. TOR offers courses and information in nutrition, physical fitness health and wellness, social skills, personal care, stress management, HIV/AIDS education, awareness, prevention, Counseling, Testing and Referral, cultural diversity, and Bible Study. Trainings and workshops are targeted towards the “inner wellness” of TOR’s clients.

A representative from Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH) is onsite to assess the new clients’ mental health needs during the initial intake process. PATH’s goal of assisting individuals find safe housing, meet daily living needs, and access psychiatric care and social services mirrors TOR’s concerns for its clients. PATH is a program provided by the Mental Health Centers of Central Illinois (MHCCI) which is a CSAC partner. Both organizations are committed to acquiring permanent supportive housing in the Springfield area. Having programs and trainings that promote healthy lifestyles, inner peace, and acceptable social skills supports TOR’s clients in adjusting to their relocation and reintegration back into community.
