Network of Employment Opportunity (NEO)

Unemployment is one of the greatest challenges the formerly incarcerated faces upon release. Upon completing our Job Readiness program, clients can access our Network of Employers who are willing to hire the formerly incarcerated. NEO enhances the ability of our clients to consistently maintain employment while navigating into roles offering greater measures of responsibility.
A significant objective of The Academy is to assist the clients of TOR to obtain and retain a job. Most offenders become obsessed and overwhelmed when contemplating getting a job on the outside. The Tower of Refuge’s Network of Employment Opportunity (NEO) is designed to reduce that stress and replace it with realistic methods of getting and retaining emplolyment.
TOR’s Job Readiness component of NEO is designed to prepare clients to present themselves as viable employees even though they have a record. A crucial part of that preparation is ensuring clients obtain their GEDs as well as plan for furthering their education, if they so desire.
Employment-focused workshops emphasize the reality of the working world and what it takes to be a part of it. Employers are brought in to present the working world from their point of view. Knowledge gained by the Job Readiness component of NEO gives ex-offenders the information needed to make their new visions probable realities.
Basic computer training courses are offered which enables many clients to be more proficient in computer skills and applications. Clients have access to the computer lab four days a week. Aptitude and skills tests are designed to assist clients in applying for jobs fitting their abilities and interests.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) and the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce are partners with TOR and the Springfield CSAC. Between these two, and other community resources, TOR is equipped with the latest employment opportunities in the Springfield area.
