Preventing & Understanding Low Self-Esteem (PULSE)

Linked in with the Mind, Body, and Soul component of The Academy is Preventing and Understanding Low-Self Esteem (PULSE). PULSE is an extension of MBS in many ways. Just as Mind, Body, and Soul is a “change” agent for helping the formerly incarcerated make an “inner-self” transition from their previous mind-sets and living habits, PULSE acts as an additional mechanism for aiding TOR’s clientele break their personal cycles of self-destructive behaviors through self-observation and cognitive intervention.

Newly released parolees are often challenged with whether or not society will accept them. PULSE provides an additional mechanism for former inmates to confront issues that triggered or still trigger their criminal or anti-social behaviors.   PULSE provides an opportunity to gain the confidence to overcome any presented obstacles. Clients learn to identify their value and how to obtain the motivation necessary to move forward.

It is difficult for someone leaving incarceration to be self-motivated if they have inadequate social skills and lack the ability to manage their stress levels. Feeling “fit” both internally and externally prepares an ex-offender to take larger steps toward integrating themselves back into their communities and their families.   It is imperative ex-offenders see themselves as positive contributors to society, and most importantly, their families. It is just as imperative for society to see them the same way.

PULSE is Tower’s guided assistance program for its clientele to challenge themselves to change old thinking and action habits as they move back into community and family relationships. We encourage them to see their potential not just their past. They want to move forward: Tower wants them to move forward.  Society needs them to move forward and away from old destructive behaviors. PULSE offers Self-Motivation Training, Self-Esteem Awareness - Overcoming Low Self-Awareness instruction and guidance in setting appropriate goals. As a result of participating in PULSE, the client expands their knowledge of their inner selves to an even higher level.
